I WORK IN THE VOICE OVER INDUSTRY AS A(N)
Voice Actor, Studio Engineer, Voiceover Coach
HERE'S A LITTLE ABOUT ME AND MY VOICE OVER EXPERIENCE
I've been one of the top male voice-over talents in the Midwest since 1989. I started my studio “Voices On” in 2001, and have since voiced hundreds of projects from web-based Flash animation to regional TV spots to college-level textbook narrations to Corporate Video narrations. I've voiced quite a few Telly (and other) award-winning spots in my career, and have had dozens of Fortune 500 clients. I've also been a much-in-demand voice-over coach and demo producer.

I have no doubt that the talent on there says the 416 "cuts through" better than the NTG-3. I think that the NTG-3 will also "cut through" a mix quite well. There's a TINY little bit of difference between the natural eq curve of the 416 and the NTG...but I have no reason to believe that it doesn't make the NTG cut through better or worse. If you look at the technical specs of each...the pattern on the 416 is a touch tighter than that of the NTG. THAT makes it a smidge punchier, but, when all is said and done, I just don't think there's that much difference.
And honestly, if you're doing voice on a spot, it'll be the engineer who is putting the spot together that will make the voice "cut through" on the mix.
Hope that helps. There's a great shootout of the two mics on youtube actually
This shows the way the two mics work as far as sonic quality and their rejection capabilities.
LOL! if only I had as much time as I used to. I've been promising folks to get a page on VU for months, but only today had the free time and wherewithal to actually do it.
Busy is a good thing, but does make life more complicated...
I trust the Voiceover Universe experience has been good for you!
Also, I hope you'll check out and join a new group that we just started called MARKETING FOR FUN AND PROFIT. It's a group dedicated to discussing ways we can market ourselves - what works; what doesn't. With your experience, you would be a tremendous resource! Thanks for the input. The agent I'm talking about is Lori Lins LTD in Milwaukee.
I may try and contact the engineer since I recorded on spot in Minneapolis and see if he has anything. We hit it off fairly well.
Thanks for the tip,
I saw it in print somewhere on this site. I don't remember now though. I talked with my agent and they said they did not want me contacting the creative or the agency directly, so I guess I will have to wait.
Nice demo and very unique website. Well done! Keep in touch.
Very good to run into you here. Hope all is well :)
