  • Hi Sini.  Well now... Double Locks was THE pub when we first lived in Exeter.  Bohemian, friendly, great food and music, welcomed kids. We loved it.  Things change.  Different brewers, I think.  It still does good food and ridiculous puddings, but the atmos is less.

That curiously pale young man is still behind the bar, looking a little older and sadder.

The great Tony left and has started a mini-Locks (armchairs, dogs, newspapers, super food) at Ide, The Poachers.   We aimed to move there, but it's too high-priced now.   Looked at Silverton too, but opted for Stoke Canon which has a strong community; about to open a community pub, which we shall get involved with on the food side.  House is just a box, but there's space for a better studio, and a view of fields.

As for radio, well it's the brewery scenario.  We had an eclectic, friendly,  ILR station in South Hams Radio until Global went on the rampage.  I went to the launch.  Dispiriting.  Director admitted to me he had zero freedom 24/7 to play off the genre list.

It's called Heart - rhymes nicely with flatulence?

If you are ever over this way - do be sure to give Davrile and me a call.  Quite probable we could offer you a space for a day or two, building and pubbery permitting.  Would be great to talk shop.

    Best regards, Howard.

  • Hidy howdy zip a dee doo dah, Sini!   Are you wearing your hat comfortably?  Hand cranked boat afloat?  Then I'll begin...   It's great to hear from you.  Well, what a co-incidence, then.  We (wife Davrille and I) met in London centuries ago then moved to Exeter via Wales/chickens/Herefordshire/Steiner School/goats, where as part of running a volunteering organisation I stumbled into RSL radio pres... "Howard's End" inevitably.

We lived in Exeter alongside our two children for 11 years, and missed it keenly when we came here to Brixham - so it's back to a village just north of the city in about five weeks. VO will be easier - Brix can be incredibly noisy, with trawlers, helicopters, gulls.  But, hey, there is music every hour, on the hour -  the church clock in our street clangs Abide With Me.

Exeter is coming alive, as you probably saw.  Respect Festival last week was heaving, and I don't mean throwing up.

Among the great gigs, Peachy Farmer with my daughter on keys.  PhonicFM did a great job, making a point of loading indie bands to their player system.  Tell that to GWR!

So, you have substantial experience and a wonderful vocal range.  When and how did VO get onto that?

    Regards,  Howard.

  • Thanks for your comments on Production Veterans,

I see you have some experience in the game too! I am glad you chimed in! Great times back then and less wannabes around because you had to have some real skill to perform effectively.
