I WORK IN THE VOICE OVER INDUSTRY AS A(N)
Voice Actor, Copy Writer
HERE'S A LITTLE ABOUT ME AND MY VOICE OVER EXPERIENCE
My start was similar to that of Harrison Ford's screen debut. In 1998, I was a studio carpenter at Turner Broadcasting and the producer I was building some set pieces for asked me to come in and do some scratch VO work for Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys.
Nothing ever came of it so I carried on in wood world. I slid out of carpentry into event marketing without even looking at VO as a career option.
I was told by my first VO coach in 2004 that i was ready o go to work when I finished his class. Frightened by the big costs of producing a demo and additional training etc, I foolishly retreated back into the marketing world but the bug kept eating away at me.
Once I started to hear 4 to 5 people a week on average compliment me on my voice; then I really started to take things seriously.
By 2009, I threw myself into the fire by moving to LA. Once I was able to make some decent money here from the event marketing horse; I was able to afford the budget for a hot demo and enroll myself in a serious VO school at Dick Orkin's Radio Ranch. After less than six weeks there, i got my first agency offer.
RECENTLY BOOKED PROJECTS
I'm glad to announce that prior to my 40th birthday (september 2012), I got the call for my first booking! The job was for voicing an industrial trade show video for caterpillar.
The copy was so tough because they took it straight from the tech manual and they wanted me to edit it on he fly so whatever it takes to make the client happy is never beyond me.
