As for fighting the…"

  • Hey Melanie,
It's nice to see you here :-) You are such a talented person. I always enjoy working with you. I hope that sometime we get to finally meet each other! Here's to a successful year!
  • Malanie - Thanks! BTW sent you a VU friend Add request. Best, Al
  • Congrats on your acquisition, Al! I'd say it's probably best to use as little processing a possible. In fact, several of my clients request no processing at all..... However, normally, I like to use a bit of the noise gate. You really have to play with it and listen to get your best settings. I have the Threshold and the ratio set at about 10 'clock position. Almost no compression, drive at about #2 setting, and density at a little less that #1. De-esser, Frequency, about 3K, and threshold at 5. For a male voice, you're going to want different settings than mine. For example, I have the Low Frequency enhancer totally down. Every now and then I play with the settings, especially when I introduce a new piece of equipment into the mix. Do you have the manual? I have a PDF version I could send you if you'd like.
  • Melanie - Would you be willing to share your settings on your DBX 286A when using the Senn MKH 416 P48? Just acquired a 416. TIA! Al Hoover
  • Hey Melanie,

I think you are sooo kewl!!! lol....I stumbled on your article about editing the breaths with "record." I think I'll try that...didn't think of that b4. Makes sense bc it's like u say - silence may sound unnatural - esp dry. Since then (a few minutes later) I listened to & read more of your spots and tips, etc. It'sall been very helpful - sooo.. thanks!!!! Just hope I can remember what I just learned....inflectionwise and such...next audition. :-)

    Best wishes!
    ~ilene
  • Hi Melanie!

I know you’ve been a member of Voiceover Universe for some time, but I wanted to introduce one of our groups to you.

I hope you'll check out and join a group called MARKETING FOR FUN AND PROFIT. It's a group dedicated to discussing ways we can market ourselves - what works; what doesn't. You’ll find some very interesting ideas and concepts there! And we would appreciate your input. Click here for the link: MARKETING FOR FUN AND PROFIT!

Thanks for your time! I trust our paths will cross soon!

    Best to ya!

Also, I may have told you this already, but I'm in Houston Feb 20-21 teaching workshop JUST FOR BEGINNERS with Jim Conlan. Please tell any newbees you might know and I surely would love to see you while there. Lunch? Wine? I'm firming up the details and will be in town Feb 19 and Feb 22 also doing private hour consults.
