"Bryan, It never hurts to add a slight bit of compression like 2 to one in order to stand out from the crowd. More useful for commercials but if you don't overdo it, it's a good idea.  Make sure you listen again once compressed to eliminate noise…"

  • Thanks for stopping by my page, Lani! I've sent over a talent assessment form for you. I've getting some interest in the video game world and would love to move that along as swiftly as possible. Just did two voices, an alien and a monster, for Oliver Animation. Hope to talk with you soon! Many warm regards, Wayne Pyle
  • Thanks for your encouragement Lani! I will be checking out your links and such.
    Best,
    Mel
  • Thanks for the good wishes...Of course I'm working tonight, but then again, better to be working than not...right?
  • Hi Lani, have you already done your teleconference selection of classes from character development and voice control to dialects, accents and Voice ACTING?
  • Hello,Lani! You live where I spent my early childhood. San Diego. We lived at 3504 Grimm from 1944 to 1950. Thank's for the listen and I am in the process of putting together some equipment for my foray into the voicing of the variety you mention. I have a large library of text, humor, poetry and and plays, from Dylan Thomas to Shakespeare. As I mentioned in my bio,it's a re-start and my voice is a bit different than it was in the Sixties, seventies and even the eighties. As for getting out to San Diego, the flesh is willing but the purse is weak(to paraphrase). I have relatives, cousins, still there but I haven't heard from them since 2000. Your stuff is stunning. Still ,there's only one of each of us,and that's why I'm giving it a shot. How do I get the samples? Do you want to hear more of me? As soon as I get set up here in my library I'll send you some stuff. In the meantime,au-revoir. Wesley M. Hind a.k.a. Earl Pillow.
  • It's not that bad Lani, at least you have the excuse of it not being your first language...... I have none whatsoever!! :-)
  • That will teach me to fly without a spell check net.....
    Thanks Lani...
  • Hi Lani,
    Sorry for the prolonged suspense!

I started this wonderful journey back in 1995. I've been steadily training and practicing but remaining on the sidelines until this last September, when I lost my day job. As I fruitlessly searched for gainful employment, I suddenly had the time to check out the VO scene and start updating my bookmarks for online resources and what have you.

I had no intention of making any serious headway. But, to make a long story short, I found a company that provided some group training, tips and techniques for readings and script analysis, one-on-one coaching, a pile of marketing help and fully produced commercial and narration demos.

So, here I am, new to the business, but not to voiceovers. I've been creating characters and analyzing commercials most of my life. Voiceovers are my destiny, especially in this brave new world of the last 10-15 years.

Last February, I was completely under the impression that I would get another day job and pack the dream into a trunk again. My how things have changed since the beginning of March!

As my resources are limited, I will be perched on the sideline for further training and coaching opportunities. But I just got hired to be the motivational voice for a cardio workout machine. So, I'm a "working" voiceover professional now!!!!

Wish me luck and I will be looking to learn from you in the very near future, as soon as the wife gives me the O.K.!

Thanks for your support and expertise.

  • Bonjour Lani! And thank you for your message. I can totally relate to the wide range being an opera graduate which is great and at times depending on the character, I have to put it in a little box and keep it there! My voice over teacher use to call me the queen of range! I thought it was fabulous and realized gotta keep some characters by a leash! Yet I love the focus and get lucky at times to get to sing (recent TV pilot "Melody Street). Perhaps one day you will need my talent! Looking forward to the possibility and will have a look at your website/links.
Merci and wishing you all the very best,

    Mukti G.
