"Yes, Sini. It like an equipment malfunction when you have a client sitting there paying 200 dollars an hour just for the studio, nevermind talent fees. It happens to the best... but rarely.

If you have an unpredictable problem with extraneous noise…"

Thanks for the comment, Jim and I am glad you brought up the acoustic issue. I needed a little prodding.
Much has been said about acoustics and isolation booths for VO. I see a lot of effort and expense going into building voice over booths when…"

"Hi Eric,

Thanks for the comment on the Skype session. The audio feed to the client is only via microphone, Which ever one you designate on the computer hosting Skype, in this case it was the mic on the camera. As you can hear when I am speaking at…"

"Mr. MacFadden!  I am so glad you asked. I get the impression that many believe the VO police will come knocking if you're not using a pop screen/filter.
First, you have a good microphone in the TLM49 assuming it is complementary to the…"

"Thank for the comments, Bubba. Yes, as I mentioned in an earlier reply, there are times when the the .2 seconds would be adjusted digitally and would be inperceptable to the average ear. In this case even the disclaimer, though quick, is not."

  • Skype update!  I decided to run Skype audio through my Mackie mixer so that everything from my board feeds down the line, instead of just my mic.  This gives me the option of sending a fully mixed piece if needed.  I use a headset, so I pipe the send and receive Skype audio into my mixer and mute the pot (mute alt 3-4 on Mackie).  That way I can hear everything through my headset, and only my voice gets recorded.  Thanks again for getting me going on this bad boy!
  • Thanks Keith.  Great info.  I forgot how good of a quality even the cheaper mic’s are anymore – for a Skype type of application.  I was fooling around with Skype on my I-pod and seems like the mic built with their ear buds works well too – for mobile applications.  Best of luck – thanks again for taking the time to share your knowledge!
  • Happy Summer Keith. Hope you're staying cool. We;'re not here in San Diego.
Welcome to VU. You're in good company here!

I wish you the best of success in all your adventures! I'd love you to join my group Ask a Casting Director. There's a lot of useful info that might help you there.

I'm a Casting Director and experienced actor (4 octave range) for Video Games and more. It's a unique genre, unlike any other that requires a lot of differentiation in voices because there are so many parts with so few lines each. It requires a huge vocal repertoire. If you feel you're experienced as a voice actor with a lot of diverse and useable characters, and you can hit the ground running, you can go to my Talent Assessment page. Classes and coaching links are also there, if you'd like more instant help to get where you need to be to land those jobs.

    Stay Super!
