I WORK IN THE VOICE OVER INDUSTRY AS A(N)
Voice Actor
HERE'S A LITTLE ABOUT ME AND MY VOICE OVER EXPERIENCE
I started in radio and moved into voice overs while gradually phasing out my on air gig. My first big break was after moving to Los Angeles in the early 80's and voicing the trailers for early teen movies such as Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Porkys and others. The huge break happened 20 years ago this August when a little upstart network called, Fox hired me as their promo voice. Since then, I've primarily worked in promo for Fox, CBS, NBC and ABC. I voice syndication packages for network shows going into reruns and first run syndication as well. I'm proud to be a part of some pretty cool Live TV events like the Emmys and Grammys and I work as an in-show announcer for programs like Deal or No Deal, Extreme Makeover Home Edition and so on. I also am the image voice for local radio and TV stations around the country. All of that takes up about an hour a day. So, pretty much I'm bored the rest of the day and that's why Rick said why don't you start "Ask Joe."

Can you let me know the process you go thru when your heading out of town. Do you check with the hotel for internet service? Do you call Steve to have a bridge set up in advance? If you can walk me through the process that would be great!
Thanks
Matt
Thanks so very much for taking the time to welcome me to VU. I am thrilled, honored, privileged and humbled to be a member of this wonder group of vo people. It's so wonderful to be a part of this with you and all the other extraordinary talents including our dear friend and vo Giant Don Lafontaine. You and Don were the first vo guys I e-mailed and both of you were so very kind to answer my inquires. Don answered me in less than 3 hours on a Sunday night last October (2007). You could have knocked me over with the feather when I saw that I had an e-mail from The Don...the VOG! I feel like I've lost a dear, dear friend. I miss him deeply. He is an inspiration to me.
And you Joe, were kind enough to sort through tons of e-mails several weeks later to find mine and answer me. Thank you for your kindness which I promise you I wil never, ever forget. You were so gracious, enthusiastic about my new vo career and you offered me advice on study materials...James Alburgers's and Penny Abshire's book/cd and Joan Baker's book. I ordered both right away and studied the heck out of them. Two of the best things I've ever done.
It's a privilege to make contact with you. You have no idea what impact your kindness has had on me. I'd love to meet you and chat some day.
Thanks so much for setting the standard of excellence everyday.
You're A Class Act!

Amazing words in which you shared with the audience at Don's bash ... a side note ... you are a very funny dude!

I was honored to speak for the voice over community along with Bill Ratner and Keri Tombasian. I read selected emails to me from Don that were true gems. I also introduced Don's favorite trailer. It was one he wrote and voiced...it featured a "young" sounding Don LaFontaine. The trailer was for The Elephant Man" I'm going to put up a link to it.

The DVD of the entire evening will be released for sale, with all proceeds going to the Don LaFontaine Foundation.
I'll have more later.

What was the name of the cough syrup for voice overs that helps with the voice. I think it was called Al something.
