"Soundforge is my favorite for voice-over actors on Windows. Fast to learn, powerful effects, easy interface.

As for Source Connect, read this."

"Twistedwave is like Sound Forge for a Mac, but easier to use and a better interface. Audacity can work but has some annoying user interface quirks and bugs."

"Dan, the app doesn't determine the sound quality, the mic does. Right now there's only one viable way to connect a studio mic to an iPhone.
Read my blog post to learn more and hear my audio sample."

"Yes, both ends need to have SC to use it, or you use an ISDN bridge to connect to studios that only have ISDN. The Autohybrid is one I've installed in many studios. You aren't going to do much better until you go to a digital hybrid, over $500 unit.…"

"You don't need a preamp separate from the one built into the Onyx 820i, the internal one is quite good. You've got a good start with that unit, it's one of my favorites.

"Send me a clip of what you're getting from your NT1a, I'll help you determine if it is really a mic you need, or room acoustic treatment, or better mic placement.

"The Rode NTG3 is an excellent alternative to the 416, many are finding them a very good substitute. You'll save $500 and be quite happy with the results."

"You'll be recording the Mic track (dry) and the Effects track (wet), so you have both versions. If you must use effects for some reason, this is the fast way to get it done in Pro Tools, and allows you to monitor yourself through the effects (but…"

  • Hi Mr. Whittam,
My dad wanted me to ask if he should get a Rode NTG3 or a (used) Senn. 416 since he wants to try for more video game and trailer work.

Or is the Nuemann TLM103 we have enough.
When he takes my brother or me to a commercial studio they usually have a 416 there even if they sometimes use something else for us. I appreciate your thoughts.

    Thank you,
    Alexis

  • Hi George!
My husband, Fred, and I just this arfternoon submitted the first audition that I recorded (with some help from Fred). Of course the notes that I made from the time I spent with you got thumbed through pretty heavily. We're back in North Carolina, and while it's nice to be back home, I'm having a hard time getting rid of all the room noise. We're going to work on it some more tomorrow, but I might be sending you a copy of an audition when I think I've got it to an accceptable level. I'd like to hear what you think.
I forgot your little daughter's name, but I remember that your wife's name is Amy and hope that they are both doing well.Liz
