"Hello Anne-Marie,

Thank you so much for the message. How is it for you being a Brit in the US? Listening to your demos I just hear a calm Brit voice with no trace yet of an American accent. Good luck to you in your VO career. I am sure it will go…"

Just a note to thank you so much for the note you sent out about the McDonalds ad. You are a star man and I am in awe at what you have done for the VO community with founding this site.

"I was on VOPlanet for a year. As a Brit, I only received 5 auditions during that year, and some of those did not suit my voice. I didn't renew and was asked why. I replied that less than one audition every 2 months was not a great ROI, but I would…"

"No...my agent got me the gig and it is a negotiated rate! I get £400 (about $700) per 20 second promo for use in Europe, the Middle East and the Far East and there are 3 or 4 every week. I get more when they go worldwide. Not enormous, but I was…"

"The other side of the coin is that there is one well-respected worldwide TV channel I work for every week....and the rate works out at $120,000 per recorded hour. I don't mind doing that!"

  • Yes, VOICE 2008 was indeed a smashing success! Thank you for your kind thoughts. I so wish you could have been here and we could have met in person. Perhaps next year?

  • David, I should have said Howdy! from the US... I have a question, what Mic. processor have you had the best luck with when it comes to your Neumann? I have the TLM 103 and I am having a hell of a time dialing it in. I have a Focusrite arriving on Monday. the dbx 286A is not cutting it.
  • How delightful to hear from you, David!

No, I have to admit, I haven't had a chance to get my Pimms yet. With all the preparations for VOICE 2008 (which happens in just 13 days) I haven't even had time to breathe! I promise I will, however! I am looking forward to a lovely, relaxing drink - or 12......

I hope you have a great weekend as well! Enjoy your lovely weather!

  • David, cheers from the US.. my favorite Mic? I have 3 I use. I used the CAD M9 for years. Most of the demo I have posted was done with the Shure KSM 32 its a really great mic. I have the Audio technica 4040, its not as dynamic as the M9 or the KSM 32 but still a good mic. I just purchased a Neumann TLM 103 I have not used it yet. I have a feeling its going to be my new one and only. What is it that you use? oh and I use a dbx 186a as a mic processor. inexpensive and works great.
  • Oh and i just checked my web page, and you are right, the @ page is down, i shall personally have a strong word with the designer of it...my husband!
  • Hi David
I forgot i was on airtalentonline, so i guess that answers your question about have i had any work from them! Have you been busy? I must admit it hasn't been too bad with me. Also had quite a lot of people using my studio, so i have had people to talk to! Going on holiday next week, in the Uk, so hope this ridiculous weather improves! Best wishes T x
  • Hey David - That's hilarious! Yes, still doing the Fab Life - 5 1/2 years and over 100 episodes. Very lucky.

Great to meet you & love the demos.

    Cheers -

    Chris.
  • Hi there! Just saw your reply about Pimms. This drink sounds absolutely delightful!! I will definitely give it a try. Perhaps I'll mix up a batch and we'll drink a toast to you at VOICE 2008 in August. Wish you could be here with us! Keep that education coming - I LOVE it!

  • Hi David, apologies for not replying sooner, i know you will hate me for this, but i have been flat out! See you are on voices 123 also. I have just been getting very cross indeed, listening to some people on there, who have been to a 'so you want to be a voice over' class! The audacity of some people is staggering! Any road up, your house sounds nice, pity about the weather...and the fat...however, being a v/o means you can be anything you like in the looks department! Hope work has picked up for you. Just about to voice a training vid for the fire brigade, oh the joy! T
  • I haven't a clue either as to what was actually supposed to be happening in the video. The rap culture isn't one I understand. But it was great fun. There were several pronnunciations of words I knew were not quite "on" and wanted to change - but the producer said he wanted a sort of non-descript European accent - whatever the heck that means - and wouldn't let me change them. Oh. well, we do what the producer wants - right? Thanks for taking the time to watch. That was very nice of you.

Okay, time for some more education - what are Pimms? Whatever they are, they sound like a pleasant thing. Have a wonderful tennis game and enjoy a lovely day.
