Hi Dan;
Sorry it took so long for me to accept your friend request. Don't take it personally!
It's just a function of how little I have used this site-- until now!
Best,
Debbie

GREAT advice and I really appreciate it.
I am going to download some of this cheaper and more user friendly software!
You have been incredibly helpful.
As a professional home studio consultant I preach learning the basics of digital recording first, then, if you understand the need for a better pre-amp, which you may not ever need, then get one. HOwever, the technology has progressed so far that these expensive items can be mimicked by smaller devices.
The big mistake people make with a home studio is buying things to make themselves sound great! In reality, you want your home studio to make you sound like ....you. Keep your initial investments simple and low cost. The biggest factor in home studio is acoustical considerations. Sound coming in... and sound bouncing around.. and how you cheaply control that with household items or simple items you can purchase. Don't get studio envy!
:-3)
If I go that way instead of Pro Tools and an MBOX....do I need a pre-amp etc? How does that work?
