"Hi Lani! The info you provide is great. My thing is documentaries. Is there necessarily a different process that's followed to cast voice talent for documentaries vs., say, straight commercial/promo spots?"

"Agree with the "off mic" approach. I use this in the radio broadcasting that I do and it's very effective in avoiding plosives. Thanks for the tips, Rodney."

  • Thanks, Brian. Start to finish was about 3 months. That's elapsed time, not actual hours. If I had to guess number of actual hours worked, it would probably be in the area of 100-120 hours.

I had to frame the concrete walls so I could put up drywall. With all materials (studs, drywall, insulation, flooring, paint, fixtures, ceiling grid and tiles, acoustic treatments, materials/tools, etc.) the total was around $1,200 - $1,500. That doesn't include any labor (all mine!) nor does it include any of the equipment directly related to recording).

Hope this is helpful to you. Good luck with your upgrade and please let me know if there's anything you think I could help with.
  • Studio looks great Curt. How long did it take you? Did you build it yourself? Im looking to (hopefully) upgrade mine here soon.
  • Hey Curt,I heard you on Bettye's webinar tonight, you have a great voice. As a newbie who is interested in AB for children's. I have lots experience working with children; storytelling, dramatic reading, and doing lots of character work. Thank in advance for any help. Blessings:)
