"Hi, Bill, welcome," comes the droning of professional mouths about the room.
What a great idea. I'm ashamed to say I was never fired from radio because I discovered the hottest format around:…"

Coming from you, that's a very high compliment indeed. It was such a high and such an honor to have been allowed to speak that night. It's been a strange two weeks, no? He touched us so deeply.
Love you,

Ohhh, whatta night at the WGA. Wow. The perfect (and deeply sad) blend of exquisite humor ("Don had pet names for his agent; one of them was Greedbag") music to make us cry, stories, Tim's excellent videos, that empty microphone with the…"

See you at the Wintner bash. But to get in, you've got to do the rap-singing video. Hey, it might be a whole new career move. I know it is for me...golden age rap!

Wally Burr is the best. He directed all the G.I. Joes I appeared in as Flint. He really knows his stuff and has directed the biggest in the biz. Very specific, no-nonsense -- the real McCoy. Please say hello to him from Flint.

"Ladie,
I LOVE your first demo - so much life, humor, character & energy. Obviously you do this for a living, and you do it with such class & sass.

On your first DEMO I wouldn't mix Spanish in with the English on the same demo track. Keep them as…"

"Joey,
Ahhh, the joys of smoke & mirrors. That's my talk-back mic that a girlfriend in 1980 gave to me after using it as a ballpeen hammer. I use a Sennheiser 416 in the booth.

  • Hi Bill ...

Just wanted to introduce myself ... I was in attendance at Don's Memorial this week and particurarly enjoyed your beautiful words and support of your dear friend. As a matter of fact, it was the BEST speech of the evening. I was blessed to have met Don in 07 who in turned helped/mentored me with my commercial and trailer demos. Those two reels are a result of Don's suggestions/tweeking if you will. We had kept in touch via email and he had just sent me an email mid August to say hello and ask how things were going.

It's been a bitter sweet week as our daughter gave birth to her fist child/our first grandchild ... but I DON'T feel like a grandfather. Maybe the kid should call me "Coach"! Anyway, be well and look forward to our paths crossing one of these fine days ....

    Talk Soon!

  • Hi Bill,
I have to tell you- You are a master storyteller-you had me riveted on Tuesday evening. The whole evening really took my breath away-

    Love you-

    Joan
  • Hey Bill, My name is Jacob Keebler. The first voice demo I ever heard was yours. You rule!

  • Bill, Such a nice comment from you. I was sad to not have been in the room with you all. I know I would have felt very at home sharing with our brothers and sisters who loved Don so much!
I arrive Sunday the 21st and will be around for a week. Hope to see you then!
    love,
    Randy
  • B~
I've found that there aren't many substitutes for a real ball peen, especially a mic. Yeah, I use the 416 as well, I just picked up a Shure desk mic though for my mobile set-up. I thought it looked like the demolition tool in your picture.
On a side- note. I just signed up to take a short course with Wally Burr, I trust you know him. He's coming to Seattle in October!
  • B.,
You're The Bomb!!! [really]...glad you like my stuff ;-) Since I just relocated to Miami, no I don't really know any agents here yet. I will do my homework and see who I discover. If you know any good ones it would be great if you shared that info=)

  • Bill...can I call you Bill? I mean...ok..um..Mr. Ratner...uuhhh...ok , I'm like totally in AWE!!!
Bill, you have made my day, week, month....well you get the idea...LOL

Really, your critique, comments, advice and compliments mean so much to me! Thank you!!!

I am getting right on it, as you read this message. I'm based in Miami, FL and yes this is one of the main things I do for a living=) I am working and looking for an agent too.

I think you covered the most important aspects, however, at the very end of my demo list there's one episode of an audio drama that I was cast in called Red Monday...have a listen...I play the role of Dana [the mom of Daniel and Gabriel].

Not sure if you listened to any of the Jamster TV spots...and there's an animation I did also, where I impersonate Laila Ali in a parody of American Gladiators...

And thanks for the heads up on my website...it's actually under construction now so I removed it for now.

    Thank you again...

  • Just loved cruising your page and listening to your demos, Bill. You're a great talent! Enjoyed the blog about those SAG ***offs, who don't want the average guy to make a living in our industry!
  • hey Bill,

Is that a Shure mic on your desk? If so, how do you like it?
  • Hi Bill,
Sending you lots of love today!
