"Great topic, Al! As a newbie, I've just dipped my toes into the ocean of PT plug-ins. I use Normalize regularly, sometimes De-Esser, and I'm just getting started with EQ 3, which I find a tad overwhelming in choice of filters. But I'd never heard of…"

  • Anne:

BNR is the name for the Digidesign Intelligent Noise Reduction Plug-In for Pro Tools. You use this to remove unwanted noise including air conditioner rumble, computer fan/disk drive whine or amp buzz — for cleaner, more professional sounding audio tracks. This requires a bit of tuning to select a sample of the identified "noise" for reference identification and later artifact removal, but it can help clean up your finished product.

    Best, Al

Disclaimer - I have no connection to DIgidesign, just a satisfied user of BNR/DINR.
  • Anne: Thought it would be interesting to collect the top recommended Pro Tools plug-ins used by voiceover home studio users. My list would include: BNR, Normalize, and EQ 3. When you are putting your money where your mouth is, what plug-ins add real value? Share and enjoy! Al

  • Thanks Anne for your message on my page! Yes, as you say there, the vo community is for the most part warm and sharing, unlike the studio singer world as I found it. They were not the same...but more about that later. I believe that teaching is the legacy we leave to others. We share our knowledge that others once shared with us and our work lives on long after we're gone. At least that's what my many teachers taught me!
Best of everything to you and do indeed stay in touch!
