Hello all... New to Voice Universe, but feel like I'm a kindred spirit with those of you who are also "rural VO" folks... I live in Northwest Iowa, about three hours from the Twin Cities... 4 1/2 or so from Omaha... 2 hrs from Sioux Falls and 3 from Des Moines... The local telephone coop and I have fought wars in the past so I connect to the "cyber world" through HughesNet Satellite based Internet and use cell phones... ISDN itself is not in the realm of possibilities technically so will have to look at Internet based technologies other than Skype when it comes time to have real time connections with studios and producers. If you have ever recorded in an old farmhouse and had to take a break while the tractors go down the road or into the field next to you... you know where I am coming from!

I haven't checked out this group in a long while and I hope everyone is doing well :) I'm still in an extremely rural area too. I'm curious, anyone here take the plunge into Source-Connect as a viable option to ISDN (it's definitely no where near available out where I live...closest ISDN area is 2 hours from me)? If so, has having it increased the number of opportunities? I've been doing ok over the years with one-off clients and a really great repeat client, but I really feel like I'm missing out on a lot of opportunities because I can't even go for the ISDN stuff. At least with Source Connect I can do the ISDN bridging option if needed. Any thoughts on this?

P.S. I forgot to mention that I called all the Vallejo locations, no matter how small their listing appeared to be. Maybe one or two were actually professional in the full sense of the word, but none who knew how to work with voiceover artists.
Becky - sorry to take so long in posting again. I live in the city of Napa, one of five cities in the Napa Valley. The listing of studios in our yellow pages focuses on Vallejo, a much bigger city that is a half hour or more drive from here depending on traffic. We have one local radio station KVYN/KVON and a handful of small museums for the whole county of Napa. There must be commercial studios around here - my interest in your site was piqued by the discussion on what to do for a back up, and there are plenty of well-known performers who visit here or have second (or 3rd or 4th) homes that need studio support. Where do they go when they don't have an in-home setup? :-)
What a great idea for a group! There are a lot of talented people out there who don't necessarily live in a big city. It'll be nice hearing your stories.

Hello Everyone,
It has been awhile since I've posted. Just a quick update that I have recorded and posted my MOH and commercial demos. I am grateful (and had a great time doing it) to have recorded the commercial demo at the Voice Acting Academy in San Diego with James Alburger and Penny Abshire. Hope all is well with everyone.
