My first performances were music recitals with the clarinet. Later I performed as Essie the ballerina in You Can't Take it With You. This included Improv when the character I was interacting with forgot his lines. Good memories.
Gr8 quote, Dan! Thanks for sharing it, and Penny, your George Carlin quote is wonderful! Andy, my first memories of performing are the puppet shows my sister and I would perform for our folks; altho' the very first thought that came to me after reading your post was the "gig" my sister & I performed at Highland Springs, a vacation getaway, in front of an entire audience staying on the grounds, big ole hall and everything! We sang "Do Re Mi" from The Sound of Music. It was pretty awesome for a then 8 year old. Wow! Haven't thought about that in years. Thanks for this morning's walk down Memory Lane! :)
Thanks for the dance quote, Penny. I love the line you have on your FB profile, "Those who dance are considered insane by those who cannot hear the music ~ Comedian George Carlin"
Thinking about the conversation we had before VOICE 2010 (http://andyboyns.com/2010/04/podcast-penny-abshire.html) I'd like to ask everyone what are their early memories of performing... Here's one of William's recent school shows (now age 6) to get you thinking http://networkedblogs.com/w8XiK
Just read a quote that I have to share. Where ever you are in your career, this applies for the next stage:
