  • Good post Penny!  We all fall in the mud from time to time, whether we're pushed, or we fall in on our own, life's messy.  It's how we clean ourselves up that makes all the difference. ~ Connie Mustang
  • A really great one today Penny - thanks so much for sharing :)
  • Thank you for that Penny. It's a great reminder not to sweat the proverbial "small stuff" because it trains our reactions to the BIG stuff.

  • Hi Penny:

Thanks for the mud puddle story.  I have been feeling like I am covered in mud lately and my usual sense of hope and humor has not been kicking in as usual. You are a wonderful lady to keep us all inspired.  On aother note, I love Randi's plea for a summer scheduled VOICE 2012.  I loved it when I attended a few years back  in August , but as someone who works in schools I can't get there from Maine unless it is in the summer.  Were  numbers any better when it was scheduled then?  I agree that for lots of reasons I think many more people could attend and please consider it.....I want to come back . : )

  • FOOD 4 THOUGHT

If you fall into a mud puddle, you will get dirty. But how you feel about it is the difference between paranoia and humor. If you are paranoid, you will believe someone pushed you in intentionally and others are laughing at you. If you have a sense of humor, you will laugh at yourself, accept a helping hand and get up.

We all face uncomfortable and unpleasant situations in our lives. Some examples can be waiting in long lines, being irritated by bad traffic, or becoming frustrated with customer service reps on the telephone. Of course, there are much more serious situations we face, but it seems like the little things are the ones that cause us the greatest distress.

I find that just the realization that everyone faces these kinds of challenges makes it far easier to cope when they fall upon me. I know that it’s not that the universe is simply “out to get me.”

I have trained myself (and offer this advice to my students) to respond to these situations, or mistakes, differently.
Mistakes can generally be taken care of with a Re-take. And the Re-take is generally better than the original!

For example: Has this ever happened to you? You’ve been writing (or recording) something for a long period of time. Just as you are about to finish, you hit the wrong key and everything you’ve done disappears. You face a choice at this point.

Do you scream, yell, pound your chest and blame your computer program for not having an adequate back up? Or do you allow your very creative mind to accept that there is nothing to be done but simply start again? Man! That’s hard to do, isn’t it? It’s so much more gratifying to scream and pound. But you know that’s completely non-productive, right? I can’t count how many times this has happened to me. There’s one really interesting thing, however. That second writing or recording is always better than the first one was.

Another example: I used to have a 3 hour commute everyday to work. In the beginning there was a lot of screaming and pounding! I complained about it constantly. Then one day, I finally made the decision to use my creative mind to make it easier. That’s when I started listening to audio books – fiction, non-fiction, self-help, etc. Now I thought of these 3 hours every day as my reading time (which I never had time to do otherwise) and all of a sudden, that 3 hours became a gift.

It’s ALL about how we respond to any given situation – you really do have the choice.

Be kind to yourselves today, my friends, and give this some thought. It may make your day a little easier.

    Hugs,

    Penny
  • This from Great Day

    Fulfillment is yours

You’ve waited long enough. This is the day to take action.

The excuses are quite reasonable and understandable, and yet they have brought no value to your life. Let go of those comfortable excuses, and step forward into the bright, direct light of achievement.

The hours in this day will quickly pass no matter what you choose to do with them. So you might as well make full use of them to create meaningful value.

If you’re not sure what to do, take a moment and reach deep inside. Remind yourself of the things that mean the most, and do what truly strengthens and supports those things.

If the disruptions and distractions erode your focus, reach inside again. Commit yourself with your actions, over and over, to live true to your highest vision.

This is your life and today is your opportunity to make a difference. Get busy, because fulfillment is now yours to create.
