  • Barb, very good observation, I had never thought of it that way, and I hope I'm not the only one that learned something from that
  • It’s Good To Be Easily Hoped

In regards to a certain circumstance, someone said to me the other day “don’t get your hopes up”. That got me to thinking. What an awful thing to say to someone. I am easily hoped and think that having hope is a very good and healthy state of mind to live in. Actually if you don’t have hope, you are pretty much hooped on having a positive attitude in life. So don’t let anyone rob you from that window of time of hoping that something wonderful might just happen. The worse thing that could happen is that it won’t happen and that only means it wasn’t meant to happen. Simply turn the page and engage in the next thing that will get your hopes up, because it is just a funner way to live life.
  • Pearl,

I also have a hubby who generally sees the negative things in life first. He's much better than he used to be, however, and bless his heart - he always supports me in my dreams even though he can't possible understand them. I am so blessed to have him in my life. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. I can't wait to meet you at VOICE 2010!

The pleasure was certainly mutual. As I told you at the wrap party, I so appreciate your kind words and encouragement to me and all of our positive thinkers. You are one of a kind! It's no wonder we all love you!

Looking forward to working with you at VOICE 2010!

    Hugs to you both!

  • Penny,

It was such an honor to finally meet you in person this past weekend. While you have a powerful voice here, it is no match for the power of meeting you face to face (or hug to hug). You and Jim are such inspriations to the VO community. Thank you for all that you give.

  • Thanks for that Food 4 Thought Penny. Its great to see positive thoughts written down!
I admit that I, personally, RARELY have thoughts of giving up when things aren't moving fast enough. My husband does that for me..... but...... I ignore him!!! He can be very negative and cynical at times but that was how he grew up and he often can't help it. He does recognize this vice and tries very hard to fight it. He is mostly happy-go-lucky and lots of fun but he sometimes can be just like his dad who is the most negative person I have ever met in my life. My father-in-law is ill, with many reasons to be sad but his negativity can sometimes sap the happy energy right out of you when you are with him. However, we do love him more than anything and we don't allow his thoughts to get the better of him. He makes himself totally miserable sometimes and we try hard, and often succeed, to get him to see the bright side of life. I try hard to not let that same negativity overwhelm my husband and family. I KNOW that I can help to add a little bit of sunshine to my husband's stressful day and I will do my utmost to prevent him becoming a carbon copy of his dad.
No matter what befalls us, we need to celebrate life knowing that it is a long and sometimes bumpy journey. I'm not a religious person but I do have strong moral values. Life is what you make of it. If you live with negative thoughts, you will struggle to be happy and you will definitely struggle to achieve your goals!! Be positive!! ALWAYS!!
Of course, it's not always rosy in the garden, and yes, I would like things to move a little faster sometimes BUT......I KNOW that one day, I WILL be VERY successful in my voiceover career. I'm not looking for fame and fortune! I'm looking for a regular customer base and a regular income. That is successful in my book. I'm doing quite well so far and have only been in the business a couple of years. Being one of the big girls would be very nice indeed but the likelihood of me reaching that status could be slim... however.... I will keep trying and all the while be happily living my dream to the full extent as long as I continue to voice all kinds of projects, especially my favorite.......children's stories, poems and books!
So, if any of you know any upcoming children's authors looking to promote their stories, just let them know that this little English lady living in Texas will happily narrate any story, especially if it needs a few character voices!!
Roll on the rest of my life. It's going to be goooood!!!

"Don't be afraid of the space between your dreams and reality. If you can dream it, you can make it so.” ~ Belva Davis

Ever find yourself feeling discouraged because your VO career hasn’t yet “taken off?” You’re doing what seems like tons of auditions and you’re not getting booked? Did you think this was going to be a lot easier? Are you questioning your decision to be a voice actor?

Just so you know, EVERY one of us has felt that way and one time or another in our careers. That’s right – even the big boys/girls have had their share of insecurities and doubts. If they had listened to those negative voices when they were screaming in their ears. . . well, they wouldn’t be the big boys/girls now, would they? They would have quit – and what a shame they would have been for all of us.

It’s absolutely normal to have doubts – but don’t allow them to keep you from your dreams – even if it seems like it’s taking a very long time. Tell the voices,

"Thank you for sharing - now SHUT UP! I'm doing it anyway!"

    Big hugs,

  • Dear Pearl
