  • Marilee - Thanks for sharing you challenges. We've all got 'em! It just depends on how you face them that is the true test of character. You'll reach your dream, honey - just keep seeing your success clearly in your mind!

Donna - Not to worry, it's just your "voices" talking to you. They can be cruel little stinkers and will always try to compare you to others. Just remember that NO ONE on this planet has your voice or your talent. You are unique! Just keep taking classes and learning - then you'll be following the right road to your ultimate success!

    Hugs to you both,

  • Penny - Happy Birthday fellow Virgo! Hope you had a great birthday xx Thanks for another great Food 4 Thought. Sometimes when the 'distraction' becomes the main attraction for a while it makes the journey a lot more interesting! Most days I'm a to-do list girl, but now and again I relish in a distraction that takes me down a road I would have never considered. So far these distractions have broadened my horizons for the better :)

Donna - Welcome! You've joined a great group! As for 'not just me'... that's the whole point. No one else can sound like you and that's the fun part. Don't try to be anyone else, just keep being the best you can be.

I can say this because I used to compare myself to other artists... but that didn't get me anywhere. Real progress only started after I allowed myself to be myself. Now that I've started to really get to know my voice my work has improved. I'm more confident because I know what I can do and where I need to push myself and frankly, I'm a much happier voice artist!

    All the best!
  • Hi, all- this is my first post. I just finished a VO class (my first one, really) and wish I weren't so self-critical... I'm trying not to get sucked into the "oh, really anybody could do what you did in there- you're nothing special with this stuff." I guess I expected to be some phenomenal character voice and not just me. (How bizarre!) Anyway, thanks for listening.
  • Penny - thanks for sharing your latest thoughts. For the past nine months or so I have spent time and energy as well as $$$ to get my acting skills up to speed, but have been sufferig with a need to job search in my safe old field of education or look for something else that sounds so interesting. I too am reminded that I am on the mission to be a strong, working voice talent - the best that I can be. Thanks for the reminder.

Hmmmmm, maybe there is something to horoscopes!

This was my birthday horoscope last week:

VIRGO: No matter how determined you are now to walk your talk, distractions can pull you off your carefully considered course. Every fork in the road is exciting because each path that leads in an unknown direction touches your soul and calls your name.

Nevertheless, it’s crucial for you to keep reminding yourself that you are on a mission. You won’t reach your desired destination if you explore every good idea on the way.

It certainly described me to a “T”! And it got me to thinking – (I know, that’s a dangerous thing).

I wonder how many times I am pulled away from my stated goals because another one comes along and it is SO interesting I just have to explore it. Actually, it happens to me ALL THE TIME. And sometimes it can be frustrating at the end of day when I haven’t accomplished all the things on my list.

Because I am (as most of you are) a “creative” it’s part of my makeup. If it were not, I’d probably be a banker or an accountant. I certainly wouldn’t be an actor! We creatives are always looking for new ways to do something, or talking to others and being creative together as we toss around ideas, or looking at something they we may have seen before, but this time in a new and interesting way. It’s who we are. You know what I mean.

So, I think that even though I will continue to make a stack of “things to do” lists and try my best to achieve my ultimate goals, I’m still going to continue enjoying the distractions along the way. After all, isn’t it the dramatic, delicious, discoveries that make life interesting?

  • Great to have you with us, Melody!

  • Hi David,

I, like you, come here daily to read the words of our special group. In this day and age, when there is so much doom and gloom around us, it is nice to have that "constant source." When I started the group, I had no idea what a special role it would play in my life. Thanks to ALL of you for making each of my days brighter!
