  • OK, so today I had one of "those" days. Voice was "wrong", pitch was off, timing was yesterday...you know what I mean. But I was determined, stayed at the mic all day...too long really. Throat irritated, brain irritated, pissy mood.

This evening, my wife took one look at me and said "what's the matter you look so dark!" I told her. Drawing on her 14 childhood years of daily piano practice, this is what she offered:

Those are the times when you can do damage to yourself, or develop bad habits to cope, which you otherwise would never have done. At times like that, move onto another part of your business like marketing, planning, researching, etc.

As I sit here tonite catching up on stuff, well aware of my throat, I thought I'd pass this perspective on to you.

  • Thank you for such a beautiful piece. Extra special to me as I have a baby grand daughter who is a Down's child. I will work even harder to put something special into my work and each day.

Do your VO clients remember you fondly? Are they anxious to work with you again?

Take a minute to watch this short video - then think about ways you can make working with YOU a memorable and enjoyable experience for your VO clients.

We can all learn a lot from Johnny!

  • Boy! Talk about the power of positive thinking!

When we had a dream way back in 2007 of having a "little conference" for voice actors - we had NO idea how successful it would be! We're now planning VOICE 2010 and it's shaping up to be bigger and better than ever! Jim's been working REALLY hard producing the promotional video and I'd love for you to see it! If you were there, you'll definitely see some familiar faces!

    Enjoy!

    Hugs,

    Penny
  • Welcome aboard Rhonda.

I know time ares tough and we have problems in the world today. I got this in my email from little known facts show again and thought it might be useful here as we reflect on society. Read the whole thing before thinking I posted something that is not uplifting. It is when you get to the end because of the perspective it should give you. :)

You hear it nearly every day. It’s shouted at us from our televisions, from our radios, and of course we read it in the newspapers, magazines and tabloids. Our society is crumbling. Nobody is taking responsibility anymore. And the number one cause, psychologists tell us, is divorce and the recent advent of single parent homes. That is the new battle cry of the pop culture today. And to be sure, a single parent home is probably not as effective at child rearing as a good, solid, dependable two parent home.

What say we look at some of the numbers and see just how bad this situation is. There are more divorces in America than any other industrialized nation in the world. Americans divorce four times more often than the British and three times as often as the French. The federal government says that on the average 38 percent of all marriages end in divorce, separation or desertion. Women are more ready to divorce bad husbands when they can get jobs, we’re told. Men are more willing to divorce if they are making enough money to pay alimony and child support, and also support themselves and maybe a new family.

Prior to that, the only alternative was desertion - the “poor man divorce,” it was called. Government surveys show 10 percent of American women don’t really want to get married at all. And a full 18 percent of women over 50 have never been married. Americans are alarmed by the rising divorce rate and often see it as a sign of a long-feared moral cataclysm brought on by the loss of old values and the failure of personal character.

And that leads us to the problem of single parent homes. Without both parents in the home to guide and nurture the children, the chances of them growing up to be maladjusted or unproductive members of society are greatly increased. The chance of boys maturing properly is largely diminished without the role model of a strong male in the house, says one social psychologist. Girls growing up without the tender nurturing of a mother run a much greater chance of not developing the maternal skills so necessary in our society, says another.

One government study showed that children growing up in single parent homes has increased to the point of a crisis and the government should step in and provide for the welfare of these children who are quickly becoming a majority in American society. And part of this has been caused by the premature death of one parent or another, especially in today’s violent society.

Yes, I know you have heard this before many times, mostly from those wanting to attract attention, like the media, or those whose living depends on such circumstances. And what I’ve just said was actually put out by our government. But before you throw up your hands in despair and update your passport to move to another country, there’s one more thing you should know. It’s a Little Known Fact that nothing is new under the sun. Yeah! You see, everything I just told you did come from a government commission which was engaged to study the problem of single parent homes. The only problem with it is . . . it was done in the year 1880!

  • My father established our relationship when I was seven years old. He looked at me and said, "You know, I brought you in this world, and I can take you out. And it don't make no difference to me, I'll make another one look just like you."
