  • Totally inspirational. I felt like a sap but the video of Susan got me all teary-eyed.

  • Thanks Penny for posting that great link. Susan Boyle has been all over the news here in Australia and I'm glad to see she is having impact right across the world.

Susan is a shining example for so many things, in particular taking that leap of faith. She didn't care what anybody thought, she just did it and look at the pay off. Here's hoping so many more great things come her way.

Also, I'm so excited to hear about your domain name purchase - I can't wait to see that website. I know it will be amazing! Thank you for all the hard work you do for this group.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

PS Tom - you're not the only person plagued by cat hair. A pillowcase over the mic and pop filter when you're not using them can help with this!
  • Well I guess this experience reinforces the old adage, "You can't tell a book by its cover" which apparently many did, erroneously. It's a good reminder, for we all come under the same scrutiny and judgement during our daily lives. Limiting this to a comment on our individual professional image, I would offer another old piece of advice: "The best defense is a good offense" or as the Boy Scouts of America say, "Be Prepared!"

Have a great weekend everyone....and by the way, am I the only person on this blog that has cat hair on his pop filter?
  • About 20 years ago, Francis Ford Coppola said that he was interested in seeing how the future of art would shape up being that the technology was finally getting out of the hands of a select few and into the masses! While it's not technology that gave Susan Boyle her gift, the fact that 17 million people (through Youtube) have now witnessed her singing without a single record having been produced, certainly is testament to what the future holds! There is so much talent out there and we are fortunate to be on the ground floor of this wonderful revolution!
  • Yes, that is so true Andy about weeping for years lost. No one is going to come and find us we have to get out there and get going. This morning I called a VO coach and am going to make things happen.
    Thanks everyone for great comments.
  • Wonderful video and story. This is a great teaching tool too, as we all have to put aside our stereotypes and prejudices.

I see that as of today 17 million people have apparently seen this from YouTube, and I was amazed to see too how the story appears to have caught on in the US. Great. The Wikipedia article is worth a scan here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Boyle as a summary of all the reasons why we are so moved by this performance.

One comment that strikes home is "people may have been 'weeping for the years of wasted talent', since most of Boyle's life has been spent in obscurity and those wasted years can never be recovered."

This is important because we have to follow our dreams, and create the opportunities to persue them. Like Susan is surely doing now, let's look forward and create our futures.

    Andy
  • Penny,
Thank you so much for sharing this video with us.

  • Amazing watching that, to say the least. We have all been given a gift. It is up to us to find that gift, and share it with the world. No matter what anyone else thinks. We should never let cynics stand in the way of our dreams. A great example is something Marice Tobias once told me. It's the crab theory. Ever notice when crabs are in a bucket, they try to climb their way out? Only to have one of the other crabs, grab them and pull them back down? That's what people will do if you let them. Don't let anyone pull you back into the bucket! Keep climbing. Keep trying! You WILL get out! Thank you for sharing your comments here everyone.
  • That was incredible. I haven't been surprised like that since Paul Potts sang on Britons got talent. What a beautiful message.
  • What a great example of never giving up on ones dreams. Thanks for sharing Penny! I wonder what the young girl who rolled her eyes before Susan's performance thought after she listened to her sing. Susan was so into her performance it was just her and the crowd, she even forgot about talking to the judges after she sang! I love it! : )
