  • Hi Nancy,

How cool that your student inspired YOU! We just never know where that "push" will come from, do we? Good for you! Just remember to thank that student in your acceptance speech when you receive your first Voicey Award! or Emmy! :-)

    Big hugs,

  • Hi all,

Here's just a little food for thought for the weekend.

We all come into this world with certain gifts (or talents). Not all of us are given abilities as artists, singers, mathematicians, communicators, writers or actors, etc.

The really cool thing about our gifts is that we usually have MANY of them. It's during our journey in life that we discover talents that were previously hidden. By overcoming the fear of taking risks and trying new things in spite of some fear, we often uncover those hidden talents quite by accident.

As for me, I want to discover ALL the gifts I've been given and use every single one. In this way, I express my gratitude for being given the gifts.

"When I stand before God at the end of my life, I hope I would have not a single bit of talent left and could say, 'I used everything you gave me!" Erma Bombeck

Be open to the wonderful possibilities of life, my friends. Have a tremendous weekend!

  • Good for you, Anna! I'm so happy to hear that our workshops were your first and that you've continued on to VO success! Keep in touch and let me know how it's going. Also, forward over your "Talent Takes" and I'll include them in the newsletter.

    Big hugs,

  • Wow Penny! I just love your story. It's so incredibly inspiring! I left a cubicle and 8 hours of computer work per day behind to get into this business and I've never looked back. My first official class was in San Diego at your studio. Thank you!
  • Happy Birthday! Trust me, Trudy - the best is yet to come! You have SO much to look forward to. Follow your dreams and you can never go wrong. Keep in touch and let me know how you're doing. We "mature" ladies have to stick together.
  • Thank you so much Penny for sharing your story. I turned 52 today and began my voiceover coaching sessions last November. It was something I had wanted to do about 10 years ago but lacked the funding to keep it up. Because I had to take the safe route and be a single parent with an income.

My voices spoke to me too and the messages were the same as you describe. And yes, I still work as a secretary and while I got lucky in my day job, I had never wanted to feel stuck in a cubicle for the rest of my career.

It's exciting, scary, challenging, to say the least, but I'm committed to training and promotion and working very hard on building my confidence. Your story is encouraging and I'm glad to have joined this community.

One of my coaches told me when I first heard my demo and was a little disparaged at my sound, "you might not like it but that's because you're comparing it...this is your sound, your type." So rather than think others are better at this than I am, I accept that I have a type that's completely my own. And that's what I bring to the table.

    Thanks for the inspiration,

  • Great to have you with us, Georgia!

  • Such a pleasure to join your group!!
    Huge smiles,
  • Hello, all. I'm glad I could join your group. I've always had a passion for V.O. but I've put it in the back of my mind for so many years. I'm now acting on that passion, and what a difference it is making in my life. I'm not actively working at this point, but I'm networking like crazy. I've had the pleasure of meeting and working with some very talented professionals, and bar none, everyone has been great! I know I'm on the right track; especially thanks to forums such as this! Thanks, Penny.
  • Hi Penny: Thanks for the constant input to all of us as it is greatly appreciated!! Anyway, good old Woodie had it right as far as I am concerned. Without my friends I never would have made it in this world. I think that God sends these friends/angels to us just when we need them to get us through our lives. In short, we are angels to each other in the last analysis. Carol
