  • Comment by Christine Ivy Schneider My situation is I need to set up the VERY basic studio mostly for practice. Would you mind helping me with that. Due to be unemployed for over a year I have taken some teleseminars, webinars and some online coaching one on one.

Hi Christine...if you have a computer or a laptop computer, you are on your way to setting up your basic studio. There is some great advice here on VU, especially in George Whittam's group. There are good sounding and inexpensive usb microphones that you can use and either free or very inexpensive recording software to be had. Beau Weaver has a group here on VU as well and he loves the software he uses for recording. So, check out the tech group and jump onto Beau's page. You will not have to spend much at all go get your basic studio. going.

    Happy New Year...

  • Comment by Tony Carnaghi Is this something I should consider doing? Do you know anyone who uses Videovoicebank.net?
Thank you for your time and I'm interested in your thoughts on the subject.
Have a great Holiday and a Happy New Year!

Hey Tony...Happy New Year. www.videovoicebank.com is a fantastic site. Many, many casting directors go there to cast for Union work (AFTRA and SAG). The "premium listing" I think that's what they call it, is something that I do every year. It highlights your name and demos and creates a link directly to your website. Because there are so many performers on the site, I think it helps to have that highlight. So, I do it and I'm happy with the cost of it and consider it part of my marketing. It will not "get you an agent" but it will help you stand out from the crowd a bit.

Best of luck with your search for an agent. Just keep submitting and updating those demos. It's a great time to refocus with the new year ahead. Go get 'em.

  • Hi Joe, I was recommended to your group. I am a newbie with some theatre backgound

I just finished reading ALL the posts from the beginning, so that when I ask a question I won't be repeating :)

My situation is I need to set up the VERY basic studio mostly for practice. Would you mind helping me with that. Due to be unemployed for over a year I have taken some teleseminars, webinars and some online coaching one on one.

My next task is to go through your videos and listen to all of them.

    Thanks and blessings:)
  • Happy Holidays Everyone!!!
  • Hi Joe, I'm new to VU but not necessarily new to voice over.
I had an agent who passed away last year, as a result I'm submitting myself for new representation because the agency closed.
I found out about Videovoicebank.net just the other day through the Voice Over Resource Guide. Videovoicebank.net says that for a fee they will list my personal website to directories used by Agencies, Casting Directors, and Managers. According to them, by submitting to these directories it is possible (not guaranteed) to get signed with an Agent.
Is this something I should consider doing? Do you know anyone who uses Videovoicebank.net?
Thank you for your time and I'm interested in your thoughts on the subject.
Have a great Holiday and a Happy New Year!
