  • Well done, Joe! Amazing you can find time to do this vid-cast.
I want to embed this one on my front page. Fun to see my newsletter in there!

  • Thanks for the info, Joe! I work in a similar way. I can understand getting the room to work acoustically for you, but working in a home studio and particularly for ISDN sessions, what additional measures do you take to keep the outside noises out - i.e. yard crew, etc. What is your special treatment for windows, for example? I actually had thick foam plugs with plywood backing built to fit into the double window in my studio. It really helped. However, even though I'm in a quiet neighborhood, there are the occasions when I'd feel more secure going into an ISDN session with even a bit more soundproofing protection - just in case. I've even considered looking into installing "soundproof" windows.
  • Comment by Melanie Haynes: Another great video, Joe! Thanks so much! So, I'm wondering if you'll be recording from the console in the big room of the new studio or if you'll also be building/creating a booth? Since you didn't mention a booth, or as least I missed it, I'm assuming you'll record in front of the monitors, etc, and will just have the acoustics tweaked in the big room?

Hi Melanie...yes, I will be soundproofing the entire room. I always set up my studios so that I can sit at the console with a microphone (just like a radio station setup). I prefer it that way. I don't like booths at my studio. I like the studio to have a "den" feel to it because I spend a lot of time in there.

  • Hey Joe!
Great peek into your new space....and thanks for the reminder about SC 3.0...I still need to upgrade...one other thing to add to the "to-do" list!
I know that when you were known for doing more "comedy" promos, you were pushed by some to attempt the more dramatic reads...which now do a lot of!
How much "out of your comfort zone" was that and how would you recommend other VO's step outside their box...without jeopardizing the "niche" they may already be known for!
Thanks again for all your energy an enthusiasm!

    Peace!

  • awesome joe! i'm curious, have you done any character acting work? any impressions? :P
  • You're always the entertainer, Joe. That video was great. The new place looks pretty spacious. Paraphrasing of course, but as Matt said... "an acoustic challenge, indeed." We can't wait to see the finished product. Will you lose some work during the move? Will you duplicate some equipment to get going quicker? Are upgrades part of the big plan?
  • that was fun to watch. maybe when you start working on acoustics you can get into how to treat a room of that size. it looks like it is going to be a challenge cuttin down the reverb. when you walked into the space and spoke there was a tremendous amount of reverb. should be interesting seeing it come together. I'll stay tuned..
  • J.C. as always a very entertaining video (wk #7) Keep 'em coming brutha. Chat soon.
